Warner Brothers recently held a press conference for "San Andreas" starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who will play a heroic first responder making amends with his family. During the press event Johnson confirmed that he will be returning to the "Fast & Furious" franchise in it's eigth installment and also teased a Hobbs spinoff film.
After the "San Andreas" press conference, Johnson was asked directly by NerdReport whether he'll be returning. "Of course," Johnson said, adding, "Can't go on without Hobbs." As for the Hobbs Spinoff for "Fast & Furious" Johnson said.
"We all are interested in it," Johnson said. “I just had a big conversation with the studio, so we’ll see. I still think for me personally, we create a little bit of space from seven and gauge what the audience will want and go from there. That’s my take on it. Now a lot of other people have their own say."
There we have it! Dwayne Johnson will be returning for "Fast & Furious 8." We'll update you on more information as it becomes available but until that time check out these other 5 exciting details about "Fast & Furious 8" below:
1. We have an exact release date for the next installment of "Fast & Furious." Vin Diesel took to the stage of CinemaCon recently and confirmed that "Fast & Furious 8" is happening, and will reach theaters on April 14, 2017.
2. Kurt Russell will have a major role to play in the next film. Russell was added to part seven as a tease for what the crew wanted to do in part eight and Vin Diesel spoke about Russell's character saying that Mr. Nobody, would be a catalyst for events that would follow through in "Fast & Furious 8."
3. There will likely be a location change to New York City. The "Fast & Furious" movies have all been L.A.-based and the film returned to Southern California with "Furious 7." But it looks like Toretto and his gang will travel to the Big Apple for a mission against Kurt Russell's character Mr. Nobody.
4. Eva Mendes may return to "Fast & Furious 8." With the "FF" timeline realigned it makes sense for Mendes’s character, U.S. Customs Agent Monica Fuentes, be brought back into the story. Especially seeing how Toretto and his crew now runs in criminal circles that involve the federal government.
5. Speaking of characters returning, Sean Boswell who plays the hero Lucas Black in "Tokyo Drift" has revealed he signed up for "Fast & Furious" eight and nine. Again with the timeline finally catching up with itself we should see more characters from the older films make a comeback.
