With Labor Day behind us, summer may be officially over, but while all good things come to an end, fall is officially here to stay, for a few weeks at least. A lot of good TV is set to return this fall, including “The Walking Dead,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Reign,” and while fans are anticipating returning series premieres, there are a ton of new series that are set to make a serious impact for the 2014 Fall TV season. While there are nearly innumerable TV shows set to premiere this fall, we have ranked the top 10 shows that you should check out, but beware you most likely will get addicted!

Red Band Society

Fox’s new series “Red Band Society” is set to premiere on Wednesday, September 17th at 9 p.m. and is set to be a series unlike anything fans have ever seen. Seemingly taking a cue from the success of this summer’s box-office hit “The Fault in our Stars,” the new show is set in a children’s hospital, which is run by Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer and Dave Annable. The pilot episode was directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and introduces a seemingly unconnected group of teens who only have one thing in common—a bleak health diagnosis. Gomez-Rejon, who is best known for his directing work with “Glee,” will employ the same warm feeling.

The Mysteries of Laura

Debra Messing is set to return to our TV screens with a new NBC series “The Mysteries of Laura.” The series is having a special preview on Wednesday, September 17th at 10 p.m., however the series will grab a much more appealing regular time slot of Wednesdays at 8 p.m. beginning on September 24th. Messing will portray Detective Laura Diamond, who serves as the protagonist to this single camera comedy which also possesses elements of a family drama and a cop procedural. Taking her talents and success form both “Will & Grace” and “Smash” Debra Messing’s talents shine with McG directing.

Madam Secretary

Joining in on the political drama is CBS with “Madam Secretary,” the series stars Tea Leoni as Elizabeth McCord, a former CIA analysts who has just recently been plucked to serve as the new secretary of state after the former who died rather unexpectedly. Executive producer, Lori McCreary revealed that the series was conceptualized following Hilary Clinton’s situation with Benghazi, leading to the question of what is it like to be the secretary of state? “Madam Secretary” is set to premiere on CBS on Sunday, September 21 at 8 p.m.

Gotham

Fox is cashing in on the superhero/comic phenomenon with its latest series “Gotham,” which will premiere on Monday, September 22 at 8 p.m. The series is being touted heavily as its new “Batman” show, especially in the wake of end of the “Dark Knight” trilogy. And while the series took place long before the Caped Crusader began patrolling the streets of Gotham, it will tell how the story of Bruce Wayne came to be. The series will be told through the eyes of Jim Gordon played by ben McKenzie, the cop who fans know as the famed Commissioner of Gotham! Joining Gordon is a young Bruce Wayne, Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a The Penguin and Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman.

Jane the Virgin

The CW has seriously cemented itself as the new spot for teen dramas, and this fall the network is bringing some Latino flavor with “Jane the Virgin.” The premiere episode which is set to premiere on Monday October 13 at 9 p.m. introduces an adorable aspiring writer and virgin, who is accidentally artificially inseminated. Removing the divine intervention, makes this series grounded while still comical, introducing classic Latino elements like Jane’s overbearing mother and grandmother.

State of Affairs

Welcome back, Katherine Heigl. The former “Grey’s Anatomy” star is back on TV with her new series on NBC “State of Affairs.” The series, a CIA thriller set to give “Homeland” a run for its money will premiere on November 17th and is set to chronicle the life of an agent who despite the consequences refuses to follow the rules. Alfre Woodard is set to portray the president of the United States, and while “State of Affairs” may be similar to “The Blacklist” and “Homeland” Heigl’s return to TV is a success.

Gracepoint

Two words, one name—Anna Gunn. The actress who just snagged her second Emmy win for “Breaking Bad,” her new series “Gracepoint” is set to premiere on Fox on Thursday, October 2nd. Joining Gunn is David Tennant, who is known for his role as the Doctor on “Doctor Who.” “Gracepoint” is a remake of the UK drama “Broadchurch” and is a classic crime drama.

The Affair

Showtime is ramping up its original content for the fall 2014 TV season, and while “The Affair” is a bit more romantic and less drama, it is certainly intriguing. Starring Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Joshua Jackson, and Maura Tierney, “The Affair” revolves around 4 New Yorkers when someone has an affair with a waitress he met on Long Island. The best part of the series is its storytelling with it being told by both a male and female perspective. “The Affair” premieres on Showtime on Sunday, October 12 ar 10 p.m.

Cristela

The Daily Beast is describing ABC’s “Cristela” as “the little show that could,” and for good reason. The comedy is a semi-autobiographical family sitcom from comedian Cristela Alonzo.
