Latina actress and notable advocate of Latina issues Eva Longoria took center stage Thursday not as a movie star, but as a voice for young scholars, alongside former President Bill Clinton. Founder of the Eva Longoria Foundation, which aims to help Latinas graduate college and find success, reported on factors that contributed to the success of disadvantaged Latinas at the Clinton Global Initiatives Conference in Chicago, NBC Latino reported.
Longoria was in attendance with other powerful names, such as Sara Martinez Tucker, CEO of the National Math + Science Initiative; Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and CEO of Chobani, Inc.; and Laysha Ward, president of community relations for Target Corp. The session that Longoria participated in was part of a bigger theme: social and economic mobility.
Hillary Clinton also spoke at the conference where husband Bill presented ideas on how to tackle the most prominent of economic challenges for the country. Hillary told attendees that her work for the foundation will now be focused predominantly on early childhood development, opportunities for women and girls and economic development that fosters job growth.
