Early this year Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres netted his 17th career goal becoming Major League Soccer’s all-time Mexican-born scoring leader. On July 20, 2014 El Cubo tied Ante Razov club record of 14 goals in a single season also is in a 6 match goal streak. And this up and coming soccer superstar talked briefly with Latin Times about the difference between Mexican Primera División and MLS, EA's upcoming title "FIFA 15"and much more!
When talking about his transition from Mexican Primera División to MLS 'Cubo' had nothing but positive things to say. "It's been a very important process in my life," said Torres. "Playing in major league soccer has helped me to mature inside and outside the pitch. I feel very happy for what I have accomplished in this league." He also talked about the differences between playing soccer for MLS vs. playing in Mexico.
"Well it's a very different soccer than the one here. In Mexico they let you have the ball on your feet, they let you think, they let you play a bit. Here it's a more intense soccer, quicker. It's very physical so when you want to stop and think you often have two or three players on top of you," said Torres. "So what I try to do is I try to think ahead. about three seconds ahead, of what I want to do so I can anticipate the moves and that can be my completive advantage because I am a little bit smaller physically than the defenses I'm up against here."
As for the FIFA games 'Cubo' revealed he has been playing since his teenage years. "Before this [FIFA 15] I played 'FIFA 14' and actually I've been playing FIFA since I was 14-years-old with my friends, my teammates, in soccer concentrations, in the hotels and even downtime of our games," said Torres.
He also told us some of his favorite aspects of "FIFA 15's" gameplay having said, "It's a little bit different, the graphics are better! But it's a little more difficult to play. Every year it gets more realistic and the players become more agile and I like that." 'Cubo' said and jokingly added, "But what I like the best is I can choose myself [laughs] and play as me."
