What's the greatest perk in a successful career in music? If I had to guess, a bespoke Ferrari is definitely up there. Talented musician and a long time Ferraristi, Eric Clapton has owned a number of iconic Ferrari sports cars including the 250 GT Lusso, the Enzo supercar, as well as the 599 Fiorano.
For the latest addition to his collection, Eric Clapton requested for a bespoke Ferrari based upon the underpinnings of a 458 Italia. According to Ferrari, "The world-famous guitar player has been attached to one particular Ferrari model: the 512BB, of which he has owned three over the years. His desire was to drive a car inspired by this model, with influences from the multi-award winning 458 Italia." In fact, Clapton initially planned to have a V12 engine from a Ferrari 599 Fiorano fitted into the belly of the 458 as well. Unfortunately, the engine bay proved to be much too cramped for the big engine and the V8 remained.
Known as the SP12 EC (Special Project 12 Eric Clapton), the exterior was designed by the Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with Pininfarina under the artistic vision of Eric Clapton. Featuring a sleek, more classic wedge-shaped design from the 1980′s, the SP12 EC also features a two tone treatment, with black rocker panels inspired by the original Ferrari 512BB.
As it is with all of Ferrari's one-off machines for private collectors, performance details on the SP12 EC are very limited. However, we are told that the special Ferrari is worth $4.75 million. An one-off built specifically for a legend of rock, the Ferrari SP12 EC should be worth every penny.
