Enrique Peña Nieto has called last night's Mexican triumph at the Oscars an "example to follow." At a speech given in the city of Queretaro, the Mexican president emphasized that the wins of Alfonso Cuarón, Emmanuel Lubezki and Lupita Nyong'o, at the Academy Awards brings pride to the whole country. "It gives us enormous satisfaction to know that three Mexicans are triumphant at a time when it is almost unthinkable that there should be a Mexican receiving these prizes," he said.

The Mexican President was on Twitter last night and sent his congratulations to the Mexican winners. Today he reemphasized his sentiments saying of Cuarón, Lubezki and Nyong'o that they are "an example to follow, they are an example that inspires us and motivates us because it lets us see of what we are capable, our strength and our potential and this is waht we want to accelerate as a government." The comments came during a speech delivering school buses to the Sierra Gorda in Queretaro.

Indeed, Mexico was a big winner at last night's award ceremony. Lupita Nyongo'o, the Mexican-born Kenyan actress, took out the award for 'Best Supporting Actress' for her turn as Patsy in Steve McQueen's epic "12 Years a Slave." But the big winner of the evening was Alfonso Cuaron, whose film "Gravity" won seven awards including Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, Best Achievement in Sound Editing, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Editing, and, of course, Best Director.
