A text exchange submitted in a court filing seemingly revealed Elon Musk was "paranoid" about being assassinated before the 2024 presidential election.
"I get credible death threats every day," text messages attributed to Musk read in conversation with Ashley St. Clair, a Conservative influencer and the mother of Musk's 13th child. "I'm #2 after Trump for assassination."
The reported exchange was submitted as part of St. Clair's two petitions, which she recently filed in a Manhattan court, seeking to legally declare Musk as the child's father and obtain full custody, according to reporting by User Mag. St. Clair gave birth to the couple's son in September 2024.
While discussing safety, Musk appeared to tell St. Clair it was "not the time for sentiment at the expense of safety."
"If I make a mistake on security, [R.S.C.] will never know his father," a message attributed to Musk read. When St. Clair stated that was why the tech billionaire's named hadn't been included on their baby's birthday certificate, Musk replied, "Necessary for now."
"Only the paranoid survive," the response read, followed by a series of follow-up messages. "The threat level will reach insane levels until the election is decided. Loose lips sink ships."
Some social media users were confounded by Musk toting his 4-year-old son, X, at events before and after the election if he believed there could be an attempt on his life.
"I have a question. If Elon Musk thinks he's #2 after Trump for assassination, why is he carrying his child with him and putting him on his neck? Why endanger the child, @elonmusk? Are you using him as a human shield?" @ruinwanderer prompted in an X post.
