El Tri's win over New Zealand has come as a great comfort to fans who have watched the team struggle against their opponents and through constant leadership shifts. However, El Tri's coach Miguel "El Piojo" Herrera is not shouting victory yet. "I'm happy with the difference in goals, they were coming to defend themselves, and luckily we managed to pry open that oyster: we could have had a five goal advantage, but in the end it was only four. That leaves me a bit annoyed, the goal we let through."
Miguel Herrera said that it isn't time to celebrate yet: his focus has turned across the globe to New Zealand. "We are going to try to widen the margin, we want to win over there, I would like to repeat the line-up but it will be a long trip, there will be fatigue - it won't be until Monday that I decide on an 11." The Americas coach also expressed his displeasure at the missed goals from within the scoring box: "the misses bother me, I didn't leave angry, I'm happy for the result, but we shouldn't let these distractions, these errors in the scoring box [stand in our way]."
However, it wasn't all critique from 'El Piojo': "the important thing is it was an aggressive game," he said. "We created a lot of goal scoring opportunities, with mid-distance shots, there was variety." But he warns that "until we hear the final whistle blow in Wellington, we won't have achieved anything." However, the hard-line coach conceded that "Mexico will be in the World Cup, of that I'm sure."
