El Tri has finally booked its place in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. And while the official team selection has not been announced, its first match next year has. El Piojo's men will take on South Korea in a friendly match next January 29th in the Alamodome of San Antonio, Texas. This will be El Tri's first match in preparation for the World Cup and will be a good indication of the team's form going into a World Cup year.
El Tri has suffered from poor form and poor leadership this year, despite its stellar Olympic form. Miguel 'El Piojo' Herrera's place as coach is not yet assured despite an impressive performance against New Zealand. Mexico's coach will be announced December 2 - El Piojo is widely expected to be named. The last time Mexico played South Korea was in 2012 in London - the match ended in a draw. They played in 2006 also in LA where the Koreans were victorious.
Although Mexico will be coming in to the game with fine form, it will be a key indicator of the strategy we can expect from El Tri going into the World Cup. It will also present a chance to see how the selection shapes up and, most importantly, works with their coach.
