Raúl Méndez plays "Chacorta" Casillas on the successful Telemundo series "El Señor de los Cielos." The telenovela about the drug lord Aurelio Casillas loosely inspired on real life Amado Carrillo Fuentes. Currently it is the highest rated program on the Spanish-language network and it is being used to launch and stabilize other shows. The finale for the second season will air tonight and to help struggling reality show "Yo Soy El Artista," the network decided to preview part of the last episode. This did not sit well with "Chacorta" and used Twitter to express his feelings. "What they do with the 'Señor de los Cielos' finale to increase the rating of other shows on Telemundo, what a pity," he wrote.
Although Telemundo claims that the launch of the talent show hosted by Lucero was a hit, the reality is that it wasn't able to put a dent on the competition, "Va Por Ti." Both shows are very similar and are vying for Hispanic audiences on Sunday nights with the edge going to Univision and the show hosted by Galilea Montijo. As part of the strategy to get people interested in watching the second show of the Telemundo reality, a preview for the finale aired during the broadcast as many viewers are anticipating the final episode tonight. As of now, we are not sure if the strategy worked for the struggling show, but it has managed to upset one of its leading stars over the treatment of the series he acts in.
"El Señor de los Cielos" is expected to come back for a third season next year as Telemundo announced during its annual Upfront presentation in New York back in May. Raúl Méndez has played Victor Casillas for the first two seasons. The second reason found Victor as he and his brother Aurelio continued to dissolute ways. His ex-wife, Matilde, declared war against him and his son disapproved of his life as a drug trafficker. Now Victor is in love with a beautiful, cold and vain woman. Everywhere he goes he gets into trouble, often at the expense of those he loves the most.
