In an Effort to Regain Support from Latino Men in Battleground States, Harris Launches 'Hombres con Harris'

On Tuesday, polls by USA TODAY/Suffolk University revealed that, even though she has a comfortable lead among Latinos in swing states Arizona and Nevada, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris was lagging behind President Joe Biden's 2020 numbers, which he rode on his way to winning both states. Perhaps more worrisome, however, was that the polls also revealed that her support among young Latino men, a key demographic, is dwindling.

On Wednesday, the vice president's campaign decided to take action on the matter by announcing the launch of "Hombres con Harris," a new initiative aimed at mobilizing Latino men in the so-called battleground states ahead of the November 5 election, according to NBC News.

To kick off the initiative, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris' running mate, will hold a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, alongside Congressman Rubén Gallego, an Iraq War veteran who is running for one of Arizona's Senate seats. Mexican actor Jaime Camil, known for his roles in telenovelas and the U.S. series "Jane the Virgin", will also participate in the event.

The "Hombres con Harris" initiative will hold events in various cities across key states, including Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, Nogales in Arizona; Sparks, Reno and Las Vegas in Nevada. The initiative will also focus on Pennsylvania, targeting areas with significant Latino populations, such as Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley, where Allentown's population is 54% Latino.

These events will feature members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, digital creators, and celebrities like actors Aaron Domínguez, Al Madrigal, and Guillermo Díaz, as well as baseball player Nick González. Events will be held in Latino-owned businesses, sports bars, restaurants, union halls, and other community spaces, aiming to engage directly with Latino men and encourage them to vote for Harris.

As part of the campaign's broader outreach to Latino voters, Harris is scheduled to participate in a televised town hall with voters in Las Vegas, organized by Univision. Walz will also be interviewed on Telemundo.
