Dulce Candy
"My advice is to believe in you enough to take risks." -Dulce Candy Dulce Candy

When we think of woman serving in the Army we tend to forget that behind the short hair or tight buns, combat boots and camouflage uniforms, exist a human being that by nature likes feminine things. Even though this might not apply in all cases, with Mexican-born beauty vlogger Dulce Candy, we can confirm that at certain point, life is going to remind our DNA, that lipsticks are not bullets and bath bombs are harmless. Makeup doesn’t make you weak or insecure – and to be honest there’s nothing more secure than a woman who wears plum lipstick and a killer eye wing at 8:00 AM.

In 2006, Dulce enlisted in the U.S. Army serving for 15 months as mechanic and driver before gaining fame as a makeup guru.

Dulce has been featured in Seventeen, Women’s Wear Daily, People Style Watch as well as winning L’Oreal & W Magazine’s 2013 “I Am Worth It” contest. She has partnered with brands such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Old Navy, Cover Girl, and has appeared on Lifetime’s Project Runway, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and more.

After all her success and amazing achievements we decided to contact her and share another story of a real orgullo Latino.

  • Latin Times: How different is Dulce Candy the U.S Army Vet from Dulce Candy the social media sensation?

Dulce Candy: I have evolved a lot since the Army! Now I am a wife, mother and much more confident person who believes in myself.

  • LT: When did you realize you wanted to be a beauty vlogger?

DC: I realized I wanted to be a beauty vlogger when I started to build a community with other young women who share the same interest.

  • LT: As a Latina, you know our beauty routine sometimes can be in exact parts weird and effective; what is so far the best beauty tip or trick you do no matter how bizarre it is?

DC: One thing I like to do when I need to look presentable and don’t have a lot of time, is wearing powder foundation. It gives you beautiful coverage and is easy to apply. It saves me a lot of time!

  • LT: Demi Lovato embraces her freckles with the #NoMakeupMonday campaign; how do you embrace your beauty marks?

DC: I remove makeup from the beauty marks on my face that used to be covered up by foundation. I make sure that I accentuate them and have seen that it inspires other girls to show theirs as well. Izek, my son, also has a beauty mark across his neck and chin. I think it’s beautiful, and always encourage him embrace it as something unique about him whenever he asks.

  • LT: Your most recent collaboration is with BeautyCon. You created the “Dulce Winter” box, what can we expect inside and how did you choose the items?

DC: I sent the Beautycon team a short list of my favorite beauty brands and products, and they came back with several options to choose from. Together, we picked the best of the best, and I am so pleased to be able to offer everything from lotion and cleansing water to mascara and highlighter by some of my favorite brands.

  • LT: Who is your favorite Latina blogger?

DC: Flordemariafashion and Nannyscloset.

  • LT: Who or what inspires you the most?

DC: Career wise, I would say my inspiration comes from other strong and successful women in the beauty/blogging space. Outside of career, my inspiration definitely comes from my family – my son and my husband.

  • LT: When MAC Cosmetics launched the “Selena Collection” you revealed how blessed you feel to receive goodies from the company. If you have the opportunity to create a capsule collection for the brand how would it be?

DC: For my personal MAC Cosmetics line, I would play up my name. I would have it be a really sweet theme, with candies everywhere. IT would be styled with lollipops and bright wrappers!

  • LT: What message do you have for the Latino community in United States, who wants to succeed the way you did?

DC: I think it all comes down to believing in yourself enough to say yes to the opportunities that come to you, and to take a risk and to do something that you’re afraid of doing! If you stay in your comfort zone, you can n never see within yourself of how capable you are of doing things. I think breaking those boundaries is what gives you give the confidence to do more in life. My advice is to believe in you enough to take risks.
