Nat Geo Mundo continues to follow the journey that involves three veterinarians, Dr. Georgina Marquez, Dr. Carlos Lopez and Giselle Concepción. They encounter different challenges faced when caring for dogs, cats, horses, snakes and even a peacock in the show. She explains that “the show is about three veterinarians, we are all of Hispanic descent. We were all actually born and raised in Latin America and basically our journey through being veterinarians in the United States and the patients that we see and the relationships with pet owners.”
“From my perspective there is a great deal of emotional involvement from the pet owner because they come in to see me with animals that are really sick and it’s often a life and death situation. I have to make split decisions to figure out how to save a patient and I don’t have the time to really sit down and think about it. I have to really just think quickly to see what I can do to save them. It’s always a challenge helping these owners which get very emotional to have their pet very sick. Some of them it’s not necessarily that they are horribly sick, some of them are just going to undergo major procedures, major surgeries or we just don’t know what we are going to find so the challenge is helping the owners through that and making those decisions,” Dr. Marquez told Latin Times.
The show takes place in California and in their home countries, which include Puerto Rico, Mexico and Guatemala. They care for animals in emergency cases. Dr. Marquez specializes in internal medicine. “I specialize in internal medicine so we address a little bit more of the human aspect.” When asked what viewers can expect from the second season of the show Dr. Marquez replied, “In the second season, we tapped a little bit more into our personal lives and what we do and really come from. There’s also more patients and different angles of how we relate to pet owners. We have a variety of exotic animals being treated.”
Dr, Marquez had a love for animals since she was a child and she always knew she wanted to be veterinarian. Also, she has been friends with Dr. Lopez for a very long time although they do not work in the same office they get along great.
