The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in the news lately and for all the wrong reasons. Prince William is in the middle of an unverified cheating scandal involving him and Kate Middleton’s friend Rose Hanbury. Unfortunately for Hanbury, the media’s attention has made her infamous, branding her as public enemy number one by the internet.
Hanbury is 35 years old and is currently the Marchioness of Cholmondeley. After she and now-husband David Rocksavage, the Marquess of Cholmondeley, got married in 2009, they raised three wonderful children: twin boys Alexander and Oliver and their little girl, Iris. She worked as a fashion model in her twenties and became a political researcher for a short while after that.
The Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley became close to the royal couple after William and Kate moved into Anmer Hall. Kate and Hanbury were considered to be friends. But recently, news of an alleged feud between the two have erupted. It was reported that Kate had asked Prince William to “phase out” Hanbury from their private circle.
“It is well known that Kate and Rose have had a terrible falling out,” a source told the Sun. “William wants to play peacemaker so the two couples can remain friends, given they live so close to each other and share many mutual friends,” he continued.
But another report disclaims the Sun’s article, saying that the two remain friends and that Kate is furious at the allegations of a feud. It continued mentioning that the royal couple is ready to sue the publication for selling lies that malign their image.
The alleged cheating incident has painted Hanbury in such a negative light, turning the internet into a very toxic place for the Marchioness. Twitter has been abuzz with insults toward the former model — by either insulting her looks or comparing her with Kate.
One user compared the two, saying that Hanbury “looks like Kate Middleton in the midst of a two day hangover.” “Prince William cheated on Kate ... with this thing ... wtf,” another user posted.
Aside from the very aggressive posts on Twitter that have been attacking Hanbury, the aggression has spread to Hanbury’s Instagram account for her palatial estate, Houghton Hall. In addition to the snide remarks about Hanbury’s appearance, people have been commenting snake emojis on the photos that include her, with some even saying, “She can’t compare with Kate.”
As much as fans love Kate and wish to protect her honor, putting down other people to do so simply does not equate to goodwill. Although people might defend themselves by calling Hanbury an evil person, this does not prove anything as reports are not even verified, and Prince William and Kate themselves have not even made a statement regarding this.
