Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles are both married to princes of the British monarchy, and this is one of the things that they have in common. They have been in-laws for eight years now. And while they’re often seen laughing together in many royal events, many wonder if they’re really close or whether their bond is merely for a show.

It was once reported that the Duchess of Cornwall thinks that Kate is “too common” to be married to a royal, and they didn’t get along at first. In a book titled “Game Of Crowns,” authored by Christopher Andersen, he explained that the secret war of the duchesses started due to rivalry, which rooted from the fact that both are to be queens.

The author claimed that Camilla tried to break off Kate and Prince William’s relationship when they were still dating as she doesn’t think that Kate can be a royal. She would urge Prince Charles to talk to his son so he can end things with his then girlfriend, but the two still got married. And Kate and Camilla’s silent war allegedly continued when they turned in-laws.

According to Andersen, Camilla is a snob, and this is one of the reasons she was pushing Kate away. He added that Prince Charle’s wife is an aristocrat who always thought of herself as the heiress to Alice Keppel, the mistress of King Edward VII, who is also her great-grandmother. She thinks she has more right to be with the royals since Kate has no royal connection at all.

Recently, a video circulated online showing Kate seemingly ignoring Camilla when they were welcoming some visiting foreign royals in June. As shown in the clip, the Duchess of Cambridge was chatting with Queen Letizia of Spain. Camilla approached them, but Kate continued talking. It appared that Camilla felt awkward as she couldn’t join the conversation, and people commented that Prince William’s wife just ignored her in-law.

While there are these reports about Kate and Camilla, in reality, they get along quite well. In fact, there are many photos that show them laughing together and having small chats while fulfilling their royal duties or simply attending events.

Prior to Kate’s wedding to Prince William, Camilla invited her out for lunch, and it was reported that “words of wisdom” were given to the then bride-to-be. At that time, the pair was said to be leaning close to each other as they were conversing over a meal.

In June this year, the duchesses attended the Order of the Garter Service at Windsor Castle, and they were having an animated conversation, with Kate laughing at Camilla’s jokes. And during the Trooping the Colour that took place in the same month, the pair was seated together in a carriage and were genuinely sharing a laugh.
