Kate Middleton and Prince William are a loving couple now, but there was a time in the early stages of their dating history when things were not going too well. According to a new report, the Queen too was concerned about her would-be daughter-in-law and avoided her.
Middleton and Prince William started dating back in around 2003. However, things were not going great in 2007, and that is when the Duke of Cambridge confided in the Queen and told her that he wasn’t sure about his future with his girlfriend, Express reported.
The Queen reportedly had “slight reservations” about Middleton, and so she “steered clear” of her during this time. Things got better between Prince William and his girlfriend eventually, and she got to meet the Queen about a year after facing relationship troubles.
The reason why the Queen wanted people in the royal family to be careful with relationships is because she concerned about the divorces in the family. She apparently felt that “enough was enough.”
“The Queen is the head of the Church and so from a point of principle she is opposed to royal divorces,” a royal aide said. Among the divorces in the family are that of the monarch’s sister and the divorces of her three children.
Despite her initial concerns, the Queen got along well with Middleton. The reason why Prince William reportedly waited so long before proposing was that he wanted to wait and see how Middleton would build a rapport with the monarch.
Middleton is currently on a tour of Pakistan with Prince William. During the official tour, they will be engaged in programs about empowering the young people, Express reported. They will be meeting with young people to hear about what they want for their future, and the royals will also explore how the communities there are responding to climate change.
