Modern Family
ABC's "Modern Family" takes on touchy subjects it its 6th season. abc

Season 6 of “Modern Family” has been off to a good, sometimes great, start. Episodes 1 and 2 had moments of extreme hilarity, as did episode 3, ‘The Cold’. As per usual the writers, Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, adapt stories from their own modern families, to make the show as relatable as it is. ‘The Cold’ episode touches on a disease spreading in the family, which, from the looks of it, is way worse than a cold. Along the whole episode, there’s root storyline touching on how parental pressure and high expectations can affect kids and adults.

The virus storyline starts out hilarious with Phil and Luke trying to edit out Mitch and Cam’s wedding video, where Phil is clearly sneezing everywhere, including the cake. Now the tricky thing about touching on this was that Ebola news started worsening at the same time they started promoting the episode. Is it me, or does Claire look like she has much more than a cold? Calling it an epidemic sure didn’t help.

Haley and Andy’s storyline is mostly awkward, since they both think each is rejecting the other. Haley thinks she has to let Andy down easy or she will break his heart and vice versa. The thing is, she gives him a speech on how every guy she’s practically looked at, gets obsessed to the point of stalking her. This might be either too soon or too close to home, since Sara Hyland recently got a restraining order from ex boyfriend Matt Prokop since he allegedly choked her and had begun to stalk her.

The ‘parent pressure’ storyline has always been present in the show, and it’s very endearing at times. The thing is, they kind of always take the route of parents telling their children how perfect they are as is, and how they could never disappoint them; but we all know they’ll go through this again in the next episode.
