“Modern Family” started its 6th season last night and it did not disappoint. Episode 1 or “The Long Honeymoon” shows the whole family trying to stay in the honeymoon phase when they really need to adjust back to reality. It takes place three months after Mitch and Cam’s 4th-time’s-a-charm wedding in last season’s finale and some characters are struggling more than others. While at some points of the episode I felt like saying, “ok, I got the point”, the show always has a way to tie it all together in the end and make its audience feel good about what they’ve just watched. That’s one of the reasons I love it.
Jay’s Harry Caray glasses: While Gloria attempts to show Jay how it makes her feel that he’s “stopped trying” after he models his new, hideous glasses, they share a special moment where it hits him and sits down to talk to his wife. Favorite quote: “People assume that I married you because of your money. And that's only a very, very small part of it.” – Gloria.
Donations: One of my favorite moments of the episode was when Jay comes back from the drycleaners and asks his wife if she’s seen a couple of shirts he’s been missing; this forces Gloria to confess she’s been sending Jay’s clothes she doesn’t like, to her family in Colombia.
Cam’s romance: Now that they’re a married couple, Cam, who’s always been the romantic in the house, has taken things to a new level; a new level that shows his fear of becoming a boring dull married couple. Mitchell, of course handles this with little to no tact at an office party Cam decided to crash. Favorite quote: “I really liked it when this house wasn’t full of bees.” – Lilly, on the hundreds of flowers Cam’s brought for Mitchell in the last three months.
Office Party: About that work party of Mitchell’s; not only is he quite annoyed by his spouse’s over the top romanticism, he has to deal with it at work, where apparently, no one else brought their significant others. Favorite quote: “We have fun.” – Cam, at the end of every sentence.
Alex is back: The Dunphy’s were having a perfect summer –or so they thought– until Alex came back. Every time Alex enters a room all hell breaks lose and everyone starts to fight. Phil and Claire attempt to send Alex back until she catches on to their offensive plan. Favorite quote: “No, move out! You’re 40!” – Luke to Hailey.
Peepshow: Little does Alex Dunphy’s family know about how much they need her there. While they think they’ve been enjoying a blissful summer, they’ve actually been making poisonous pies, starting fires and Hailey’s been changing in front of a web cam. Favorite quote: ““We’re a family of fire-starters, poison-eaters, and online prostitutes.” – Phil.
