Today at the Gamescom 2013 gaming conference, Blizzard announced the "Reaper of Souls" expansion pack for "Diablo 3." Reaper of Souls will feature a new act, a higher-level cap, new endgame options and, of course, more loot. At the conference Josh Mosquiera revealed a new class, the Crusader, a burly and heavily armored character. Reaper of Souls centers on Malthael, the angel of death, who has seized control of the black soulstone, which houses the soul of Diablo himself.
Blizzard promises a "darker" game this time around and Malthael is just that, dark. He is able to siphon souls from the people of Sanctuary, even allowing him to turn citizens into his minions. Diablo creators also said the expansion takes place in Westmarch, a sprawling city environment which has its own secrets, including something called Death Orbs.
The Crusader class is a holy knight, not unlike Diablo 2's Paladin. They are described as "a war machine made human. The Crusader packs skills like shield bash and a deadly technique called Falling Sword, which basically turns the Crusader into a bolt of lightning crashing down from the heavens. Unfortunately Blizzard did not mention a release date for the upcoming expansion.
On August 15 Blizzard launched a teaser site suggesting the first "Diablo 3" expansion would, in fact, be called Reaper of Souls; said title was mentioned in the URL and had been trademarked at the bottom of the site.
The story is still developing so check back in to find out more news on the "Diablo 3" expansion.
