The Marc Cherry written show is based on the Mexican series "Ellas, Son La Alegría Del Hogar" about a group of maids in a Beverly Hills neighborhood that is shaken when a maid is murdered. "Devious" premiered on June 23 to modest viewership but has quickly gained an audience and made Lifetime the No. 1 network on Sundays at 10pm among women.

This will make for some creative thinking in the writers room as the original Televisa format only lasted one season.

Star Dania Ramirez was excited for the news when she received it and tweeted: "We did it!!!! #DeviousArmy #DeviousMaids LOVE YOU!!! #Season2 Here we come! Thank you Boss! @EvaLongoria"

While Roselyn Sanchez also used the social network to express her gratitude after being picked up for a sophmore season: "'m a MAID...and proud of it!! Soy criada...y orgullosa de serlo!"

Two weeks ago, the show hit a series high with 2.9 million viewers in the 18-49 key demo, which represented a 45 percent increase. Not bad for a summer show that was originally developed for ABC and passed on by the network.

"Devious Maids" stars Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem and Judy Reyes.
