The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox have played a top notch series to this point. Expected to be a thriller throughout, the 2013 American League Championships Series has been a true showcase for some of the best pitching in Major League Baseball. Detroit received another top performance from former Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander in Game 3 but because Sox righty John Lackey was dominant as well, the Tigers fell behind in the series after a 1-0 defeat. Verlander was brilliant in the loss, fanning 10 batters in 8 crisp innings but it was the one mistake he made that ultimately cost Detroit. Surrendering a solo home run to Boston's Mike Napoli in the seventh inning, Verlander could only watch as his offense struggled to get runners on base before ultimately falling behind in the series 2-1.

Boston, looking to take a controlling 3-1 lead, will send veteran ace Jake Peavy to the mound in Game 4 where he'll be opposed by Detroit's Doug Fister. Peavy came over to the Sox earlier this season before the non-waiver Trade Deadline and even though he says it was hard to leave a great team like the Chicago White Sox, the veteran is excited for a chance to help Boston win on the big stage, noting that he'll be focused from start to finish no matter what the opposing line-up brings his way.

"It was obviously hard to leave a place I loved and had so many friendships and relationships with in Chicago," Peavy said. "But when you get traded you know you're going to a contender and this is what, as a competitor, as a baseball player, playing at the highest level, you dream of being able to do -- pitch in games that mean the world to your teammates, to yourself, to your coaching staff and your fan base.

"You're going to know how the game is going, really, by the look on my face and my reactions out there," he continued. "That being said, I think sometimes in my emotion it gets lost that I am thinking through what's happening in the game. I'm processing everything that's being said, everything that's being done. I will be under control."

Coming off a game in which they collected only 6 hits and 0 runs, Detroit will certainly be in trouble if Jake Peavy is at the top of his game. A strong performance from Doug Fister (14-9, 3.87 ERA regular season) will surely be needed but the main focus for Detroit will be getting to Peavy early and often as they hope to tie the series up in front of the home crown at Comerica Park.
