CVG reports Activision is expecting “Destiny” to be "the biggest new IP launch in video game history" according to Activision publishing president and CEO Eric Hirsberg. He also confirmed that the games public beta is due this summer, ahead of the official launch date which is slated for Sept. 9. This news follows Activision’s financial report which confirmed “Call of Duty” 2014 is going to be developed by Sledgehammer Games. The report also confirmed that the game will have been in production for three years.
Not only that Activision has also revealed that Sledgehammer, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are all making their own Call of Duty titles with three year production cycles. Meanwhile during the investor call, Hirsberg discussed “Destiny” in detail saying, “We believe Destiny could be Activision Publishing’s third billion-dollar franchise, and we’re working hard to make it the biggest new IP launch in video game history.”
“Together, we are bringing gamers an ambitious and innovative game which combines the intensity of great first-person action, with the character investment and social connections of an RPG in an immense connected universe,” Hirsberg said. “We believe the game is on track to deliver record pre-orders for a new franchise, a public beta is planned for summer and we expect to launch the game on September 9. We look forward to expanding this universe for years to come and you’ll see much more in the months ahead.”
