The decomposing bodies of a mom and her 3-year-old twins were discovered inside a parked car near a Florida apartment complex.
Andrea Langhorst, 35, of St. Lucie County, her daughter Olivia Dryer and son Adam Dryer, were found dead inside a Cadillac parked outside the Manatee Cove Apartments complex in the 700 block of Madelyn Way on Sunday, March 27.
"The windows are all fogged. They said there’s like a really bad stench coming out of it," WFTV quoted the 911 caller as saying.
"But, you can’t see into the car because the windows are so fogged."
Police said they were responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle when they made the gruesome discovery at around 10.20 pm.
Investigators said that Andrea and her kids had been living out of her car in which the family was found.
"[They] appear to have been living transiently out of the vehicle along the east coast of Florida," Melbourne Police Department said in a press release statement.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports to determine if the three died at the same time or if the mother passed away before her children.
They are investigating surveillance footage from the area to ascertain when Andrea parked the car and if she had any interactions with anyone after.
"It's still under investigation," Lt. Shaun Hill, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department, said, Florida Today reported. "We don't have any information as far as how long they were there. But she was living out of her car."
Andrea’s father, Randy Langhorst, suspects drug usage could have possibly factored into his daughter’s death. He told Florida Today he hadn’t spoken to his daughter since March 11.
"We were looking for her and hadn’t heard anything from her," Randy Langhorst told the outlet. "That was unusual for her. We wouldn’t have daily contact with her, but this was a while," Randy said.
"She was a free spirit, smart as a whip, beautiful, but lived her life to the beat of her own drummer. It’s just a tragedy."
"It was her decision," he added. "We didn’t exactly approve of her lifestyle. Everything is hindsight, but I’ll be kicking [myself] for the rest of my life.”
"All I can think about are those babies," he said.
Authorities said they have no reason to believe there is an active or persistent danger to the community.
Police are asking anyone who believes they may have information about these parties or this incident contact the Melbourne Police Department at (321) 608-6371.
