Dayanara Torres is a former Miss Universe who was also once married to singer Marc Anthony. Earlier this year, she was diagnosed with skin cancer and this week, she just gave an update about her battle with the Big C.
It was on Feb. 4 when the Puerto Rican beauty revealed that she has the disease through social media. Although she knew that she'd be facing tough times ahead as she began treatment, she remained optimistic that she'd emerge victorious in her battle with skin cancer.
After her shocking diagnosis, she immediately underwent immunotherapy treatments to fight her metastatic melanoma which she described as the “most serious cancer of all” because it can easily spread to other areas in the body and organs which can worsen the situation. It is aggressive in this way because it is the type of cancer that runs through the lymphatic system.
On Dec. 4, she told her followers on Instagram, that she wants to raise awareness about melanoma and gave updates on her condition. Torres uploaded a short clip that also featured her mother Doña Luz Delgado and she appeared to be very happy and energetic. She told everyone that it is her fourteenth treatment and grateful that it is going well.
In her post, Dayanara Torres also wrote a long message that includes a warning to everyone. She urged people to consult a doctor once they noticed a new mole with different color, uneven in shape and growing. She also shared when she is expecting her treatment to finish.
“In January 2019, I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, phase three,” she wrote as translated by Hola! “After going through two surgeries - the last one left me with 77 stitches behind my thigh, knee and calf - in March this year I started the treatment that will finish on March 2020."
Finally, Torres also expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff of The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute who she said has been supporting her since day 1. The 45-year-old former beauty queen added that with the love and support she has been getting from the staff, she knows she is in the best hands.
