MTV2 and MLB are teaming up for a weekly series that will take fans inside the MLB Fan Cave and beyond for a look at what goes on when the cameras go off. World Series MVP David Ortiz and Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star centerfielder Andrew McCutchen will executive produce this new weekly, 30-episode series on MTV2 slated to kick off in April 2014. The show will be shot at the MLB Fan Cave in New York, a spot that mixes baseball with music, pop culture, media, interactive technology and art. According to MTV, the show will allow you to get to know your favorite ball players through interviews and features that will provide a look at their personalities and passions outside the diamond.
MTV had expressed interest in Ortiz after seeing a Fan Cave feature depicting him walking through enemy territory in New York asking Yankees fans for a hug, said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president for business. "Ortiz has done more things for the Fan Cave than pretty much any other player," Brosnan said. "One of the biggest roles for him and McCutchen will be to encourage other players to get involved." According to Brosnan, the show might discuss some things that are happening on the field, but that's not really the main purpose. Like the fan cave, the big idea is to promote the game and its players with a young generation.
"Players want to be musicians and the musicians want to be players," Ortiz said. "So it's going to be pretty easy to get my friends in baseball to have some fun on MTV." McCutchen added, "Music is a passion of mine so when I was asked to be involved in a show that brings baseball to MTV, I jumped at it. "It is going to be a lot of fun to show a different side of baseball and the players." Are you excited about this new collaboration between MLB and MTV? Let us know in the comment section below!
