Marvel has announced that Elodie Yung ("G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") will play Elektra in the second season of the Netflix Original "Daredevil." The actress will make an excellent addition to the series and can easily dominate the role as she has practiced karate for over ten years.
IGN reports Netflix version of Elektra Natchios is described as "a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock's past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle." The first season of "Daredevil" made reference to the character in a college flashback scene, but now Yung will portray one of "Daredevil's" most iconic characters.
In addition to the announcement Marvel also released the following teaser image for season two, reflecting the latest character addition. Check out the promo poster below along with these 5 other exciting details about the coming season:
1. Along with Elektra season two will showcase another iconic marvel character, The Punisher. Yung will be joining Jon Bernthal who was announced as The Punisher last month. Bernthal has shown he is dedicated to doing the role right as he shared a few images of himself with numerous Punisher graphic novels.
2. Additionally, we can expect to see Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson return from the first season as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Karen Page, Franklin "Foggy" Nelson and Claire Temple, respectively.
3. Production and filming has already began as images of Charlie Cox and Elden Henson has leaked online of the two in lower Manhattan. And according to Cox we won't have to wait too long to see the new season. In an interview with Empire Cox said:
“It’ll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year. Again, I’m imagining all this, but they’ll probably do Iron Fist or Luke Cage at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe Defenders in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.”
4. Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight won't return to season two. Doug Petrie ("American Horror Story") and Marco Ramirez ("Sons of Anarchy") will take over the role. Jeph Loeb will also return as an executive producer. DeKnight released a statement saying:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season. I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."
5. Showrunners have hinted and teased that we'll be introduced to Bullseye in the "Daredevil" Netflix Original:
“Based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did."
Furthermore, it was initially rumored that Jason Statham would take up the role although that has since been debunked.
