The "Dancing With the Stars" cast has been revealed for the show's upcoming 17th season! Valerie Harper, most famous for her role on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", leads the cast as she battles a rare cancer condition. Harper and the rest of the cast were unveiled on ABC's Good Morning America on Wednesday morning. Joining Harper for another installment of "DWTS" is MTV's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, former NFL Superbowl Champion Keyshawn Johnson, actress Leah Remini, Ozzy Osbourne's son Jack Osbourne, singer Christina Milian, "Glee" actress, Amber Riley, Bill Nye, actress Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Disney's Corbin Bleu, actor Brant Daugherty, and comedian Bill Engvall.
The new cast is quite shocking with a definite mix of age, profession and even fan base. And despite the show's increasingly older audience, it seems that ABC has attempted to draw some younger viewers with the inclusion of Bleu, who is best known for his role in Disney's "High School Musical" franchise and Polizzi, who is described as a "meatball" on MTV's hit reality series "Jersey Shore." And while we have not yet seen how a meatball performs a waltz, the 25-year-old is sure to impress following a serious physical transformation after giving birth to 1-year-old son, Lorenzo. The pint sized reality star has lost weight and gained muscle, giving her a boost in the strenuous dance competition.
Another competitor who seems like tough competition is singer, Christina Milian, as no stranger to the stage, Milian has already danced through her career. The newly engaged Milian gained even more of an edge after being partnered with Mark Ballas. Another rumored front runner is Glee's Amber Riley who is partner with four-time winner, Derek Hough. Not only does "Glee" have a loyal fan base, but Riley has been singing and acting throughout her entire time on the show.
More surprising castings came from the reveal of Bill Nye, the Science Guy. Other than his name rhyming, I am doubtful of his rhythm. Another shock was Harper, who recently revealed a heartbreaking terminal cancer diagnosis. Although the 74-year-old told People magazine she wanted to be on "DWTS" after receiving some encouraging medical news, "The doctors tell me there's less evidence of cancer, which is very unusual. However, they both say it's not a case of if, but when. And I can live with that," she explains. "When they asked me to be on DWTS, I thought, "Why would I say no?" When life asks you to dance, you just have to dance."
