Daddy Yankee has said he and his team will "fight til the end" against the November 21 ruling by a Miami court that the latino hip hop star owes six million dollars in damages to Diego Iraola and Five Live Entertainment. The ruling came as a shock to Yankee who said that "none of the alleged defamatory comments were made by me nor by my team." As such, the 36-year-old musician assured the media that "this verdict and sentence are not final and my lawyers have received instructions to fight until the the end."
Dady Yankee was found guilty of causing six million dollars in damages to Diego Iraola and Five Live Entertainment for defamatory comments and newsletters sent out by Daddy Yankee and El Cartel Records. Yet according to Yankee, the comments in question were issued by Icaro Services and a Mr. Edgar Baldiris. The alleged defamation emerged after the cancelation of a 2010 tour of Argentina, of which Baldiris and Icaro Services acted as a booking agent. Yet the jury has sided with Iraola and ordered Yankee to pay the damages.
Daddy Yankee emphasized the fact that while he is "a man of law and order (and therefore) respects the decision of the jury, I disagree with the decision completely." The singer continued, "I have always been very conscientious when it comes to what I put on social media because I understand the impact that my comments can have on the whole world. That's why all my public statements and communications with the press are evaluated by my team." However, it appears the Miami jury does share Yankee's view.
