A 48-year-old Indian man allegedly sexually assaulted his 20-year-old daughter in Andheri, Mumbai for two years. He has been arrested by Sahar Police.
According to police sources, the victim was confronted by her father regarding her boyfriend whom she was in a relationship with when she was a minor, reported Free Press Journal. Her father told the girl that a godman had said that her boyfriend was in "grave danger" and will die. To avoid that, the godman apparently suggested the father to have sexual relations with his daughter, the police said.
“The accused said to the victim that baba has told a remedy that if she made physical relationship with her father then her lover's life can be saved. So, to save her boyfriend’s life, she kept a physical relationship with her father,” said a police officer, according to Mid-Day.
The victim is a college student while her father has a garment shop.
Police said that the incident came to light after the girl told her boyfriend about it, following which he took her to the police station on Wednesday. “When she revealed about the incident to her boyfriend, he took her to the police station and filed a case,” the officer shared.
“We registered the case against her father and arrested him. The girl also told us that her father sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager. We will also add the sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act in this case,” said another police officer.
In a statement to the police, the victim said that she did not tell anyone about the assault as she was scared, but she noted that it affected her mental and physical health.
In another incident, a 39-year-old Ludhiana man was arrested last month for raping and impregnating his 17-year-old step-daughter. The Childline helpline received a call from a Manuke village resident about the girl’s five-month pregnancy.
Mamta Chaudhary, district coordinator of the helpline, informed the police about the incident as the girl is a minor. The step-father was later arrested, reported Hindustan Times. “He has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said sub-inspector Arshpreet Kaur, SHO, Hathur police station.
After his arrest, the victim recorded her statement and her custody was given to her mother.
