In a shocking incident, a visually challenged Indian man has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his 13-year-old niece. The sex crime reportedly took place multiple times over the last six months at the man's house in Jagadgirigutta, Telangana.
The matter came to light after the victim was found five months pregnant. The man was arrested by Jagadgirigutta police on Sunday.
According to the police, a few days ago the 13-year-old girl complained of stomach ache, following which her family members took her to a doctor for a medical examination. Later, it was found that she was expecting a child, reported Times Now News.
When she was asked about it, she told her mother that her uncle had raped her several times over the last six months. Without any delay, the girl’s parents approached the Jagadgirigutta police and filed a complaint against the man.
The police filed a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the basis of the complaint.
In a similar incident, a 45-year-old Indian textile worker was convicted for rape and sexual assault on his niece for nearly two years and impregnating the teenager, reported The Times of India. The accused, Shailesh Rathod, was sentenced to life imprisonment last week.
Rathod, a resident of Salabatpura area, was not convicted under POCSO, but he was charged of rape and sexual assault of his 19-year-old niece under sections of Indian Penal Code. The repeated sexual assaults left the victim pregnant.
Her family got to know about the crime when she was found eight months pregnant. Since there was a delay, the teenager could not get the child aborted. She is now raising the girl child.
After the child's DNA profiling was done, it was proved that Rathod is the father. He has been ordered to pay Rs 10 lakh ($1 million) compensation to the victim out of which he needs to deposit Rs 6 lakh ($0.6 million) in bank and from its interest, expenses for the child needs to be paid.
The victim is an orphan. Her mother passed away nine years ago, and the father died from an illness seven years ago. The complaint was filed by her elder brother in Salabatpura police station on Sep. 23, 2020. Since 2019, the brother had noticed the victim in objectionable condition with Rathod, who lived near her house.
