Cruz Gilberto, the lead singer of "Corazón Pantera" was shot dead yesterday, Monday, Dec. 2 after an unidentified man broke into his house and fired three times against the Mexican regional singer. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Mexican time in Sinaloa. Gilberto was a disabled man as he suffered from paralysis in his legs. His wife told police that a man she didn't know knocked on their door and asked to see the singer. People going to visit Gilberto was very common for the couple, due to his condition, so the wife let the man in, but once he was inside he shot the artist three times, one in the chest, another in the cheek and a third time hitting the abdomen.
The assailant allegedly used a 9mm weapon. After he murdered the singer he fled the crime scene and authorities were not able to catch him. Police are still investigating the case. This is not the first time that a Mexican regional musician has been murdered. In a little over a year, three other banda artists were violently killed. Diego Antonio Espinoza, vocalist of "Escolta de Sinaloa," and Roberto Gómez and Roberto Clemente, members of the band "El Cártel de Sinaloa" were also murdered. The first one outside a club and the last two in an attack at a home while they were rehearsing for their next performance.
As for Cruz Gilberto, he had gotten back together with "Corazón Pantera" in 2012 after the band took a three-year hiatus. They released their newest album "Las Mujeres Malas" or "The bad women" which was a mix of romantic and love songs, and other songs that asked for women to treat men better. "There aren't a lot of bad women out there, but this material is for them to know how to treat us better," he said in an interview last year. "Paquita la del Barrio always trashes us men, so this is our rebuttal."
