Grammy winner Luis Fonsi is joining "Forever Tango" on Broadway for two exclusive weeks. The known performer will be featured on the great white way from August 20 to September 1, 2013. The show's run is expected to end September 15.
Fonsi, a Puerto Rico-born, Orlando-raised singer who became an international sensation reaching sales that have earned him gold and platinum records in the United States and Latin America, is more than thrilled to be joining "Forever Tango."
"Being able to perform on Broadway is an honor and a challenge for any artist. I'm happy to be joining such an amazing show that celebrates our music and our culture, in this case, a very elegant and sentimental genre as is Tango," expressed Fonsi in a statement.
"I love and respect the theatre, so I feel beyond honored to have the opportunity to lend my voice to the Broadway stages," he added.
Luis Bravo, the mastermind behind this dance spectacular that traces the colorful history of tango through music, dance and dramatic vignettes, is also excited to have Luis Fonsi on board.
"It is with great pleasure that we welcome Luis Fonsi to our talented company of Forever Tango," Bravo said. "I'm very excited for the New York audience to experience the talents of this great artist live on Broadway."
Luis Fonsi is joining 16 renowned tango dancers and an 11 people orchestra that give life to the show every day. Also making special appearances, "Dancing With The Stars" pro dancers Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and internationally acclaimed salsa singers Gilberto Santa Rosa and Luis Enrique.
"Forever Tango" had a hit, year-long run on Broadway in 1997 and has been back to New York on two separate occasions. It's been nominated multiple times for the Tonys and Drama Desk Awards and has toured the United States widely, as well as making appearances all over the world.
