There will be new characters taking over when the fifth season of “The Crown” is released. Among the names taking over include Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville and Elizabeth Debicki among others.
A lot is hinging on the fifth season. The fact that “The Crown” will only last until a sixth season means showrunners will have to set the right stage for the finale. And the names mentioned earlier will be put in that spot with the period being a critical factor. “The Crown” season 5 will cover the 90s, turbulent times that will give Staunton and Manville plenty of work ahead.
With plenty to expect on “The Crown” season 5, most will want to know when it will be released. Unfortunately, for now, the answer to that is up in the air.
Season 4 of “The Crown” was released last November and filming for the next season remains on break. They are not expected to go back to work until June this year, Deadline reported.
With those dates in mind, a safe forecast is that “The Crown” is not expected to come out until 2022. Worth noting is that the current break is not tied to the ongoing pandemic. It was always part of their regular schedule before the COVID-19 issue came in.
Speaking of the coronavirus, that is a factor worth considering. Most have heard of the spikes happening around the world with some countries locking down. Though vaccines are out, it is a point worth considering. However, 2022 looms as the sensible time for “The Crown” season 5 to potentially come out.
Aside from Staunton and Manville, other cast members will be coming in. That includes Jonathan Pryce who will take on the role of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. As for the part of Prince Charles, Dominic West is being linked to the role according to Variety. The part was previously played by Josh O’Connor.
Debicki is likely to be gone after season 5, playing the role of Princess Diana. She is expected to hold key scenes in season 5, including that divorce between her and Prince Charles in 1996. She died in 1997, which will likely be the last for Debicki unless some flashbacks are in order.
Aside from that, there is little to ponder for season 5 of “The Crown.” The best to expect is after June when the cast and crew return to work.
