Whether it’s for the pomp, glamor and power or the scandals that some royals will inevitably find themselves in, the public has always been very interested in the royal family. It’s no wonder then that Netflix’s royal biopic “The Crown” has been steadily attracting a huge fanbase over the years.
Now that “The Crown” Season 3 has been announced, interest in the show has also skyrocketed to an all-time high. For fans who want to get a glimpse of what the show could bring, here are a few exciting news doing their rounds lately.
The upcoming season will mark the introduction of a grown-up Princess Anne into the series’ plot. Thus, there will be a new actress who will play her character, according to Express.
Erin Doherty will be joining “The Crown” Season 3 as Princess Anne. She will replace Lyla Barrett-Rye, who played as the school-aged Anne in the previous season.
Doherty also shared a few words on what fans can expect in Season 3. “Watch it. Just get your eyes on it, because you’re going to fall in love,” she spoke during at The Old Vic’s annual fundraiser at The Brewery. “These people are amazing. It’s just a knock-out.”
The upcoming season will also introduce a new actor for Prince Charles. The Prince of Wales will now be played by “The Durrells” star Josh O’Connor, who replaces previous season’s Julian Baring.
“There were more physically demanding scenes or emotionally demanding scenes, but the first day on set was the hardest because I walked into an unbelievable powerhouse of a series with incredible actors like Olivia and Helena and Tobias,” O’Connor spoke about the difficulties in filming.
Queen Elizabeth II will be played by a new actress as well. Olivia Colman will replace Claire Foy as the monarch in “The Crown” Season 3, according to Radio Times. Meanwhile, Prince Philip will be played by Tobias Menzies, who replaces Matt Smith for the role.
At the moment, there is no official premiere date for the third season of “The Crown.” However, Olivia Colman already confirmed that principal filming was already done in February. Many estimate the film to be released on Netflix sometime this year.
