Cory Monteith's last film may hold some similarities to the "Glee" star's life. In "McCanick," the Canadian actor plays a drug-addicted criminal sent to prison for murder.

The film will be opening during the Toronto Film Festival and the director "knew he could play the character because of his troubled past" as he stated to People magazine. Monteith was found dead a month ago in his Vancouver hotel room and results showed he passed away from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol.

"He opened up quite a bit," director Josh C. Waller told the magazine of their meeting for the movie. "He was like, 'I can do this character. I know this character. I was this character. I have lived elements of this.' He said, 'I was a troubled youth.' "
In a still (photo above) released from "McCanick" we can see Monteith shedding his clean-cut, innocent "Finn Hudson" looks, in favor of a long-haired, distressed look. This past sunday, girlfriend Lea Michele received an award and gave a tearful speech in remembrance of the late actor.
