A cop from Idaho who grew to prominence for his TikTok video mocking LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers has been fired from the force. His efforts to mock the four-time NBA champion proved costly which Bellevue Mayor Ned Burns said was a result of continued policy violations after agreeing to the last chance agreement with his superiors.
“The decision was solely made by the command structure within the Bellevue Marshals office and was not influenced in any way by me or by the City Council,” Burns explained.
The former police officer was identified as Nate Silvester who believes he is the latest target of “cancel culture.” He made the claim hours after he was fired on Thursday when he appeared on the Fox News show.
Silvester was initially suspended for his video that cropped up on TikTok on Apr. 24. The video showed him mocking James, making it look like he was talking to the Los Angeles Lakers star. He made it look like he was seeking advice from James while witnessing an imaginary black person trying to stab another black individual.
“So you don’t care if a black person kills another black person, but you do care if a white cop kills a black person, even if he’s doing it to save the life of another black person?” Silvester said. “I mean it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but then again you are really good at basketball so I guess I’ll take your word for it,” he added.
Silvester went on to explain that he intended to humanize the badge. He adds that none of his videos depicted him in uniform or involved any body camera footage. But he believes that since he took a shot a LeBron James, the whole thing struck a political nerve.
