A man has been arrested for allegedly killing the 8-year-old son of his lover after the boy told his father about the illicit relationship the suspect was having with his mother.
The accused, identified as 21-year-old Jitendra Maddheshiya, who worked as a cook at the victim’s home in the Bhiwandi city of Maharashtra, India, reportedly had an affair with the boy’s mother.
According to the police, a case of kidnapping was registered after the child had gone missing on Thursday, July 15. An investigation was launched and a search operation was initiated to find the boy, following which, the victim’s body was found inside a closed flat in the building where the family lived.
During an investigation, police officers learned that the boy had found out about the relationship between his mother and the suspect. He had alerted his father about the same after which the cook was fired.
Investigators located the suspect and took him to custody. Following interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing the boy.
"We grilled Maddheshiya, who confessed to having killed the boy for exposing his relationship with the mother," the Times of India quoted the police official, Pradeep Gupta, as saying.
The boy’s body was sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The exact cause of death will be determined after the results are out.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were available at the time of this writing.
In a similar but unrelated incident, the decomposed bodies of a 40-year-old woman and her 19-year-old mentally challenged son were found at their home in India’s Meerut on Wednesday, July 14.
The police were alerted after neighbors complained of a foul smell emanating from the family's home that was locked from the inside.
"The bodies were badly decomposed. They may have died on Sunday or even before that," a neighbor said.
The woman’s husband filed a complaint accusing a distant kin of the deceased woman of "killing the two over an illicit relationship".
"The woman was living separately from her husband for long. It seems that the 'lover' had killed the woman and her son as he was fed up with the expenses and demands," Santosh Singh, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), said.
The police have initiated a manhunt for the suspect who fled the scene after the killing.
