Yesterday, we reported that the SRT Viper GTS-R will be entering into Road Atlanta's Petit Le Mans as its inaugural race after American Le Mans Series driver Ryan Hunter-Reay announced his factory SRT entry. Oops.
Today, SRT has officially announced the that Viper GTS-R will make its racing debut in the American Le Mans Series on August 4 in Mid-Ohio. Testing and developments continues and the engineers at SRT are working with partners at Riley Technologies to make sure that the Viper GTS-R really gets dialed in to perfection before showtime. So far, the SRT Viper GTS-R has tested at Carolina Motorsports Park, Virginia International Speedway, and finally Mid-Ohio during the July 4th weekend.
According to SRT Motorsports Racing Manager Gary Johnson, "Each test has met and more often exceeded our expectations, so we'll see how things go at Mid-Ohio and then make a decision about the rest of the 2012 season." While we are already informed of its Petit Le Mans participation, other venues are unconfirmed. The SRT Viper GTS-R plans to campaign for the entire 2013 ALMS season.
SRT will field two Viper GTS-R racing cars for Mid Ohio and drivers Dominik Farnbacher, Marc Goossens, Kuno Wittmer, and American Ryan Hunter-Realy are expected to get behind the wheel.
