In a recent interview, journalist Paola Ramos suggested that Latinos who support Republican candidate Donald Trump is a reflection of "internalized racism", as she believes the former president "can sort of tap into a racial and ethnic grievance that is very familiar" to the demographic. Theories around the shift of Latinos to the right abound, but the fact is clear: Kamala Harris lags behind the historic threshold needed for Democratic candidates to win the presidency.
The shift in Latino ideology has also affected the media landscape as Fox News, who has traditionally amassed a mostly White audience, reached more Latino viewers last quarter than its cable news rivals.
So it comes as no surprise that the network announced the launch of a Spanish-language news show called "Fox Noticias" on Fox Deportes, its Spanish-language sports network, starting October 15, just weeks before the election, as reported by Axios.
The show will air weekdays at 4 p.m. ET and will be hosted by Rachel Campos-Duffy, co-host of "Fox & Friends Weekend." Campos-Duffy, a granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, aims to focus on issues important to the community, such as politics, the economy, immigration, and cultural trends. Duffy will interview Panama President José Raúl Mulino during the show's debut week.
"Fox News Channel has seen dramatic growth in Hispanic viewers over the last year increasing in double and triple digits in viewers and the younger A25–54 demographic," Fox News senior vice president John Sylvester told Axios. "Coupled with recent data that shows the Hispanic population is the fastest growing electorate, it was a natural decision to create 'Fox Noticias,'" he added.
Alongside the show, Fox News will also introduce a Spanish-language version of its website, featuring machine-translated articles from its main site and original commentary targeted at the demographic.
In addition to being available on TV, the show will be streamed on various platforms, including the Fox Sports app, Fox Nation, YouTube, and social media channels, with a podcast version also offered.
