Each year Christmas season seems to start earlier and earlier, however if you live in the tri-state area then you know that the holiday season doesn’t truly begin until the famous tree in New York’s Rockefeller Center is lit. The tree lighting, “Christmas in Rockefeller Center”, is a genuine event of it’s own, which means that in addition to the traditional unveiling of the Christmas tree, decorations, and the plaza’s ice rink, the 82nd annual event will feature several amazing performances.
“Christmas in Rockefeller Center” will air live on December 3 on NBC; the evening will begin at 8 p.m. with Mariah Carey’s performance of her #1 holiday hit, “ All I Want For Christmas Is You.” In addition to Mariah Carey’s opener, the evening will feature performances from Lady Gaga, LeAnn Rimes, and Trisha Yearwood.
The broadcast seems to be focusing on quality family programming because in addition to these popular performers, Idina Menzel, whose most recent film “Frozen” has become a global phenomenon. Kids can bet that they can sing a long to Menzel’s song “Let It Go” while waiting to see The Rockettes who will make an appearance at the event before returning to Radio City for their own “Christmas Spectacular.”
The program is not just for the kids, because Tony Bennett and Cyndi Lauper will also perform some of their classic tunes. And last but certainly not least; the Latinos will be represented in the 2014 “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” with a special performance by Latin music idol Prince Royce. Royce who is currently rehearsing in New York for the prime time event, discovered that he has been nominated for five 2015 Premio Lo Nuestro Music Awards. Royce has a lot to be excited about this holiday season, and revealed that he is more than thrilled to be performing in the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” lineup stating, "I have watched this celebration and have admired the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree since I was a kid - it is an honor to have been chosen to sing alongside such important artists at this special event.”
