Selena Gomez did not have time to grieve and process the death of her good friend Christina Grimmie, who passed away after being shot and killed Friday night.
After receiving the heartbreaking news, Gomez, who is making the rounds with her "Revival Tour," tweeted a photo of her and Grimmie and captioned it with "My heart is absolutely broken, I miss you Christina."
During her show in Miami Saturday night, the Mexican-American songstress could not help but pay an emotional tribute to her late friend and former "The Voice" season 6 finalist.
"One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her," Gomez said to the crowd. "I think it's not about a religion and it's not about good deeds. I think she just had faith and I don't really understand how this really happened, but I would like to dedicate this song to her," she added before wiping her tears and performing "Transfiguration" on her piano.
She also broke down during her song "Nobody" and at one point mouthed "I'm sorry" to her fans. Grimmie and Gomez had a very good friendship for the past six years. The two met through Selena's stepfather, Brian Teefey, who discovered Grimmie on YouTube and became her longtime manager.
Grimmie, who was on Adam Lavine's team and finished in third place on season 6 of the competition, was killed Friday night after a concert she had with the band Before You Exit. The gruesome incident happened at The Plaza Live theater in Orlando, Florida during a fan meet-and-greet, where she was signing autographs.
According to CNN, a 27-year-old white man approached the artist in the venue armed with two handguns, two additional loaded magazines and a large hunting knife. He then shot and killed the 22-year-old singer and shot himself after Grimmie's brother tackled him.
Grimmie was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at the hospital a few hours later.
The motive of the man's action, identified as Kevin James, is unknown but authorities confirm that the suspect was not from Central Florida. "[He] traveled to Orlando apparently to commit this crime," Orlando Police Chief John Mina told reporters Saturday.
