Social media can make or break anyone, including high-profile personalities. The only ones who can set the tone are the ones behind the accounts and former Sports Illustrated cover model Chrissy Teigen paid heavily for a cyberbullying issue.
Per reports, Bloomingdale pulled the plug on a potential deal with the wife of John Legend as a result of the scandal. The original plans were to see the cookbook author host a promotional event at Macy’s but the whole thing was dropped a revelation by another model, Courtney Stodden. She claims that Teigen encouraged them to kill themselves when they were just 16.
For those who may not know, Stodden grew to prominence in 2011. She married actor Doug Hutchinson when she was only 16.
Stodden made public some of those tweets, including one that read: “I hate you,” “my Friday fantasy: you. Dirt nap” and “go. To sleep. forever.”
But the most disturbing part was Teigen telling them to kill themselves. The 35-year-old apologized for all that recently but it appears the damage has already been done.
“I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that… is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel,” her post read.
Although she showed guts and took full responsibility, Macy did not take it lightly. Sources claim that the goods were taken off the site because of the backlash from the public. However, it was also added that the company hasn’t decided whether Teigen’s products will become available at Macy’s again in the future.
“They pretty much had it together … but had to cancel it,” said an unnamed source of the department store.
It was an unfortunate unearthing of a past issue so it will be interesting if things look up for Teigen will still get that chance to show her “Cravings by Chrissy” cookware line.
