
Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare rebuke of the executive branch, rejecting the Trump administration's calls to impeach judges ruling against its initiatives.
Roberts issued a statement on the matter on Tuesday, saying that "for more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision." "The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose," he added.
The statement comes shortly after Trump called for the impeachment of Judge James Boasberg, who the administration has been targeting after issuing orders to block the deportation of hundreds of Venezuelans to El Salvador's infamous CECOT prison under a 18th century law used during wartime.
"HE DIDN'T WIN ANYTHING! I WON FOR MANY REASONS, IN AN OVERWHELMING MANDATE, BUT FIGHTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION MAY HAVE BEEN THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR THIS HISTORIC VICTORY," Trump wrote in his social media platform, Truth Social.
"I'm just doing what the VOTERS wanted me to do. This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges' I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!! WE DON'T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!" he added.
It is the latest such attack from Trump, which has been echoed by several high-profile Republicans, including Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk. He has routinely called for the removal of judges ruling against government wishes.
His calls have been rebuked by the American Bar Association, which earlier in March said it would "not stay silent in the face of efforts to remake the legal profession into something that rewards those who agree with the government and punishes those who do not."

Musk, however, has continued with his calls, and on Tuesday he reposted a publication by Republican Rep. Brandon Gill, who announced on X he introduced "Articles of Impeachment against radical activist judge" Boasberg. "He is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and should be removed from office," Gill said.
