Charice Pempengco a former star on "Glee" came out as a lesbian during an interview in her native home, the Philippines. The beautiful 21-year-old Charice Pempengco came out Sunday to the Filipino entertainment show "The Buzz."
According to the New York Post "The Buzz" reporter asked Pempengco point blank to address the rumors that she is a lesbian. Charice Pempengco replied, "Opo tomboy po ako," translated this means "Yes I am a lesbian."
"The Buzz" interview became emotional after that, Pempengco shed a few tears when she admitted that she is estranged from her mother and brother.
Rumors that Charice Pempengco might be a lesbian surfaced when she cut off her long hair and began to dress, as some have described, more masculine.
During her emotional admission Pempengco surprisingly apologized to fans who may not be accepting of her sexual orientation. According to the Daily News Charice Pempengco added "Now I feel free," after her emotional statement.
"But to those who can accept me. Thank you very much," Pempengco said. "We are all equal, whether you are gay or straight."
Charice Pempengco's incredible musical talent was first discovered in 2007. She was a contestant on the Korean talent show "Star King." In 2008 Pempengco released her debut album in the Philippines. The young star made her US debut later in 2008 when she appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, OMG reports. Charice Pempengco's resulting popularity got her a gig as a regular during the second season of "Glee."
Following her "The Buzz" interview Charice Pempengco recorded a separate message to fans thanking those who support her.
"I just want to say thank you personally to all my fans," Pempengco said. "To all the people who are still supporting me, who are still there for me. Honestly I am very, very. I can't explain how happy I am right now hearing all the positive things."
