New year, new you, and new technology! CES 2015 at Las Vegas is the world's biggest electronics expo and every tech giant has prepared some serious new tech trends and devices for the occasion. On Monday, January 5, Sony will hold their official CES press conference, called "Welcome to the New World," at 5:00 p.m. PST, or 8 p.m. EST. For those that are not in Vegas, Sony will also provide a live stream of the keynote so that you won't feel left out.
According to the official Sony Twitter account, the "Welcome to the New World" event will be held at the Sony booth in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Finally, the CES 2015 Sony live stream can be accessed via this link here.
According to Engadget, Sony as a company is experiencing difficult challenges ahead as its product lineup is mostly reactive to existing trends, which is a stark contrast to its trendsetting image in the '90s and early 2000s. As a part of their new business strategy, Sony is shedding a lot of it's less profitable projects to better focus on its successful ones, including the beloved Sony PlayStation gaming console as well as its solid line of Xperia mobile devices.
According to GSM Arena, it is rather unlikely for Sony to unveil their new Xperia X4 family as the company will likely save the unveiling for the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona in a few month's time. That said, Engadget doesn't see a problem with Sony making moves in the mobile industry during CES. According to speculations, a new Xperia flagship will sport a 5.2-inch or greater screen that boasts 1080p or even Quad HD display. The latest Xperia will boast Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 power inside. Secondly, Sony is rumored to be working on a new wearable device. Smart watches seem to be the new "it" product in the industry and Motorola has proved that a smartwatch doesn't necessarily have to directly tie with a smartwatch to be sucessful. Sony's new smartwatch may follow this route as well.
Beyond mobile devices, Sony is also expected to present new Ultra HD television technology at CES as well. Sony currently owns a number of powerful pixel density patents that will no doubt push the HDTV envelope. In addition, Sony is slated to apply the Google's Android TV platform to enhance its line of Sony smart TV as well. No doubt
Finally, 2015 will no doubt become an important year for the Sony PlayStation 4 console. Last year, Sony announced their PlayStation Now service, their video-game-centric interpretation of the Netflix streaming service. At this year's CES, we expect Sony to announce new features to PlayStation Now. Secondly, we're also looking forward to new breakthroughs in Sony's Project Morpheus virtual reality hardware. The headset and its prototyping peripherals and video games are already surprisingly polished. This year, we will see whether Sony's Project Morpheus will stand out against the likes of Samsung and the highly acclaimed Oculus.
