A Border Patrol agent has tested positive with coronavirus after working along the southern border in Texas earlier this year. The patrol agent from Maine is under medical care at the hospital since February.

According to a GoFundMe page set up to help him and his family, the patrol agent, Kostas Papadopoulos was deployed in Texas on March 1, to assist with the ongoing migrant crisis and was diagnosed with Covid-19 later that month. He was in Texas for an undetermined amount of time before becoming ill, according to the website.

Papadopoulos was taken to the hospital in March and has spent over a month in the intensive care unit, reported Fox News. Hospitalization and medical care, in addition to the distance from family and friends, have burdened his family tremendously. To meet the needs of the family and help them with finances and emotional support, a GoFundMe fundraiser was set up.

On the GoFundMe website, founder Dayna Lincoln said, "Their friends, US Border Patrol coworkers, and church family believe that Kostas & Jackie will give the fullest assistance to another family in need." As an act of goodwill and help for the community, Lincoln believed it is time to urge the society to assist the family of Papadopoulos.

Lincoln set up the fundraiser page earlier this week to aid the purchase of an out-of-pocket medical evacuation flight from Texas to Boston, where Papadopoulos will be further tested. She did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News. The page had received nearly $39,000 as donations for the family as of Friday, far above the $25,000 target that was set.

In a Facebook post, Lincoln said that Papadopoulos, a father-of-three, had been transferred to a Boston hospital for further care closer to home. She further thanked Papadopoulos' colleagues for filling in the shoes of his wife Jaclyn, when she couldn't be there to take care of him.

His friends and family have been striving to get Papadopoulos home since February. They have made contributions and made efforts to get him home soon. “There remains a long road ahead for his full recovery and the continued support and encouragement from everyone will be a BIG part of it. We hope and pray his time in Boston will be a short stop on his way back to Maine," the post read.

Earlier, Fox News reported that although Americans are being schooled on wearing masks and getting vaccinated, Biden is relaxing immigration policies, causing Covid-infected migrants to rush to the US.
