Caroline Wozniacki, Rory McIlroy Split: Athletes Broke Up After Tennis Pro Posted A ‘Mean’ Twitter Picture Of Golf Star

It's over for Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy, after the latter ended their two-year relationship over a photo the Danish tennis pro posted on her twitter with the Irish golfer asleep with his mouth open and his glasses on. According to Ireland's Independent "Friends say a photograph posted by Caroline on Twitter, which showed her boyfriend in a deep sleep, was one of the final straws for the number-one golfer. One source said: 'Rory was very upset by it and even Serena Williams pointed out - albeit in a joking way - it was a pretty mean thing to do.'"

The paper also pointed out that Wozniacki was particularly upset about the breakup. "'There were a lot of tears. She still has her profile picture on her social-networking site set as the two of them in happier times, but I can tell you the pair are no longer an item,' a source told this newspaper. Rory has a lot of respect for Caroline and their time together was good, but he feels it's time to move on now. And he wishes her nothing but the best." Although Wozniacki's Twitter avatar continues to be a photo of the two, the "happy couple" updates have been rare since late summer.

As for McIlroy, he hasn't tweeted about Caroline much since wishing his "gorgeous girl" a happy birthday in July. After that, most of his tweets since have been strictly business-related. Over the last year, the 24-year-old has experienced major issues with his performance and form while his relationship with Wozniacki is also considered by some as a factor. World Golf Hall of Fame member Gary Player advised that McIlroy should not play with a worried mind. "If you're a young man like Rory, you can't play with worries," Player said. "You can't have managerial problems, you can't have women problems. You've got to be out there and have a free mind."
