Carlos Gómez, the outfielder from the Milwaukee Brewers, has been ejected from the stadium in Pittsburgh following a fight with his Pirates counterpart Travis Snider. The altercation soon involved the entire bench from both sides during the third inning on Sunday. Gómez, who is Dominican, started a screaming match with the Pirates' opening pitcher, Gerrit Cole, after Gómez hit a tripple off Cole's pitch. Cole, infuriated by the way Gómez threw his bat down, walked tover to the batting mound.
Carlos Gómez, for his part, showed no sign of backing down and in fact started walking towards the pitcher's mound: meanwhile, players from both teams ran out of their player's boxes and ran towardds the developing fight. Gómez and Snider started trading blows, and Gómez fell to the floor. The Pirate's catcher, Russel Martin, was had to be held back by his teammate, Gaby Sánchez. The Brewers' coach, Jerry Narron, was also ejected from the stadium.
Carlos Gómez was replaced by Elian Herrera at third base - the inning ended when Jean Segura tapped a pitch back to Cole. Herrera took Gomez's place in center field. This is not the first time that Gómez has been involved in on-field altercations. In September last year, Gómez sparked another bench-clearing brawl after mouthing off at Paul Maholm, Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann while he was rounding the bases. That ended in a face-to-face confrontation with McCann - Gomez was also ejected.
