MLB's Latino of the night: Freddy Peralta's right arm keeps Angels at bay

SEATTLE - Dominican Freddy Peralta was due a big win after two months of struggles. The 28-year-old helped the Milwaukee Brewers to a win by pitching six scoreless innings, the first time he didn't allow a single run since April 19.

"He expects this. He expects six shutout every time, and that's hard," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after the game. "This is Major League Baseball. He's been around a while and guys know him, guys are getting up for him. I'm really proud Freddy battled the way he did tonight."

It was a much better outing for Peralta this time around compared to his most recent starts. Before the 2-0 win against the Angels, Peralta had allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits in just 8 2/3 innings over his previous two starts.

In fact, such had been his struggles that June 19's game was the first time in almost a month that he threw for more than five innings.

But according to Peralta himself, he arrived to Anaheim with a completely different mindset. That helped him get back to his best, allowing just two walks and finishing the game with eight strikeouts, the most he's had in a road game since April 12, when he had 11 strikeouts.

"Everything was a lot clearer for me today," Peralta said. "I worked on that the last 4-5 days. Sometimes, this game is a lot mental. I tried to relax a little bit and let the game go and do what I needed to do."

The shutout was the Brewers' fourth of the season and first since June 7 at Detroit. The Brewers have a record of 10-5 in games in which Peralta has started this season.
