In a surprise development that is somehow an anticipated one if history is to be considered, Neil Warnock resigned as manager of Sky Bet Championship club Cardiff City.
That is after Cardiff could not regain its touch that earned the club promotion to the Premier League last season.
Cardiff is currently 14th among 24 clubs in the second division with 21 points after 16 matches, but the team only won once in its last five matches, losing two of its last three.
Warnock's departure came two days after Cardiff fell at home to Bristol City, 0-1.
According to a statement made by Cardiff, the club parted ways with Warnock on a mutual agreement.
But according to Sol Bamba, the resignation came as a shock for all the players.
"I'm absolutely devastated, not only me [but] every single player in the dressing room. We absolutely loved the gaffer with passion," the defender told Sky Sports. "At the minute, it's a lot to take in. We are all very very devastated."
The Ivory Coast national then remembered how Warnock was a coach for them on and off the field.
"He's a very very good man. That's the most important thing for me and for all the lads. Everybody knows about his man-management. It's well documented. He makes us feel loved and he makes players want to fight for him," Bamba continued.
Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman somehow shares the same sentiment with Bamba, saying, "He not only gained promotion in his first season but played a pivotal role in uniting the fans and the club. I am personally upset by his departure."
Aside from Bamba, another player who shone brightly for Cardiff is goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.
In his first legit Premier League season, the Philippine national showed brilliance, although he gave up a ton of goals due to the loopholes in the backline.
However, his starting position could be in peril if the upcoming coach prefers the improved Alex Smithies over him, who is just fresh from a preseason injury.
Warnock's resignation could also affect Etheridge's focus as he is expected to start for the Philippines in back-to-back FIFA World Cup Qualifiers matches on the road against Maldives and Syria this weekend.
